Today, March 5th, 2015, marked a sad day in New York City history as the infamous Roseland Ballroom said goodbye. Footage taken by an aerial drone documenting what’s left of our favorite performance center, (set to a somber “Pounds Up” remix), surfaced on Roseland’s official Twitter a few hours ago. The full video can be found here.

Subsequently, the Roseland Ballroom closed its doors on April 7th, 2014, with Lady Gaga performing a record-breaking series of seven sold out shows. A long list of some of the world’s greatest musicians can be attributed to Roseland’s history ranging from Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong, to The Rolling Stones, Radiohead, Madonna, Jay-Z, Deadmau5, Kaskade, Above & Beyond, Eric Prydz, Armin Van Buuren, and many more. It illustrates the historical significance and influential impact the venue had on NYC.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to save the ballroom. According to one source (Village Voice), the beloved concert venue was closed due to structural problems, noise complaints, and competitive contractors wanting to transform the area into another upscale residential property. Currently, that’s what is being built in its place.
If you live in Manhattan, or have ever ventured out to see this glorious venue, you know how heavy our hearts lay with the official news of its collapse. Roseland stood as a cultural hub and staple in the music industry, hosting a wide spectrum of artists and fans alike over the years. There wasn’t a looming shadow of over-commercialization at Roseland, unlike many of the other “VIP table” clubs in the same neighborhood. It stood as a beacon of hope, a true melting pot in a city known for its eclectic diversity.
Perhaps this just serves as a poignant reminder; “all good things (must) come to an end.” As we bid our final farewell to Roseland Ballroom, we wanted to celebrate its memory with five of our favorite performances. Goodbye old friend.
