Hi, everybody. Welcome back to the Shuffle Button! Generally, we focuses on upbeat dance music in this space. While we’ll definitely feature that subset of music today, we’re gonna bookend with some feelings because why not?
Schatrax – Wait, This Place In’t On The Map
In the spirit of exploration, we’re going to start this week off with a question that basically means you’re lost. However, getting lost is sometimes better then knowing where you’re going.
By showing the softer side of electronic music, Schatrax is inviting listeners to find their place in the world. “Wait This Place In’t On The Map” could easily soundtrack a solo adventure. This meandering and mellow track is more traveling music than party music.
Junktions – Visions Of You
Continuing on our soft start, we’re going to let “Visions of You” sit in and put out a mellow vibe. Junktions is focused on soundtracking our late night chill mood. We’re talking west coast hip hop vibes matched with new school cool.
No pretention here, we’re all about doing you and mellowing out.
Paul Johnson – I’m Gonna Dance Tonight
The chill vibes weren’t going to last forever. Who better to kick us into a dancing mood than house legend Paul Johnson? “I’m Gonna Dance Tonight” mixes that 90’s carefree dance spirit with 2000’s electronic sensibility.
The disco flavor from this track will get you onto the dance floor in no time.
Shy FX & T Power – Feelings
Getting more into the soulful side of drum and bass, jungle legend Shy FX brings his jazzy insight to the forefront to attract people to the dance floor. He’s all about less power more “Feelings”.
This song shows that jungle can be accessible and fun. People think jungle is always hard, but that shouldn’t scare people, it’s all about the feeling involved.
Wilkinson & Dimension – Rush
Heading back towards some eerie drum and bass, Wilkinson and Dimension presented us with a hit from 2017. It’s upbeat and at the same time somewhat disconcerting and moody. Wilkinson’s melody is unmistakable and the duo’s commitment to a powerful drum and bass sound transcends their styles and combines to make a powerful sound.
All in all, it’s a great track that anyone can enjoy.
CHOOOOOOON of the Week
Deadmau5 – Raise Your Weapon
Deadmau5 is known as a genius and a trendsetter for so many things in the electronic music world.
Although many focus on his production chops, we think he doesn’t get enough credit for the fact that he knows how to instill so much emotion in songs that affect so many people.
“Raise Your Weapon” is agonizing and beautiful for anyone that has suffered heartache. Listeners are distracted by the smooth and progressive production that overshadows the emotional and heartbreaking vocal until it’s too late.
The song starts off in such an innocuous sense, but it’s not until it’s mostly over that we feel the full weight of Greta Svabo Bech’s words and know exactly how much those lyrics play a part in the finished product.
The devastating drop shocks you and let’s you understand just how heavy this song is. It’s the genius of Deadmau5’s productions to hide the true spirit of the song for four minutes. “Raise Your Weapon” is a forlorn and desperate song by someone who’s love has been ignored, but that doesn’t come across until the change of mood.
It’s beautiful and heartbreaking, and thus the true genius of Deadmau5.
