Who is Altego? A valid question you may find yourself asking. Our team member Ally labeled him as “progressive house’s freshest face” when she spotlighted him back in May. Since then, I have had the opportunity to sit back, watch and meticulously develop my own opinion. Altego is Nick Barns, a 21-year old from Russia who has yet to receive the recognition he deserves but continues a relentless grind in production. From his ‘Walking Alone‘ remix to the most recent stab at a Fred Lilla track, I think the question remaining is “when?”, rather than if.
Production aside, this week’s 10th Spectrum of Sound installment highlights the oh so important aspect of mixing. Barns begins with his own intro edit before mastering 62 minutes of harmony carrying elements of prog-house, trance and big room. Flawless transitioning is the name of the game, an industry intangible even the most snobbish of edm fans can all agree on.
