Regardless of your feelings towards Swedish House Mafia, their music or motivations to retire; their final set at Ultra Music Festival Weekend Two was a part of music history. We are living through an exciting time where technology is changing every part of how we experience music. From discovering, sharing, purchasing, listening and viewing live no part remains untouched.
Swedish House Mafia is the ultimate representation of this. The group formed in 2008 and only released a total of six singles from then until now. Yet they were the first electronic dance act to sell out Madison Square Garden and became one of the most influential groups in the dance music world.
I’m hoping that this was their final tour and they do remain retired. I’ll think back to when dance music in America exploded and what it felt like to sing “Save The World” surrounded by thousands of friends.
Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello individually and collectively as Swedish House Mafia, helped pioneer the genre to what it is today. They deserve the chance to create something of their own and build their own legacy.
This gives them that chance. It’s up to them whether they take it…
How will you remember Swedish House Mafia?
