With Jack-U’s electric outing and deadmau5’s trolling drama, it’s easy to forget what occurred during Tiesto’s closing set on Friday night. The surprise wasn’t necessarily the tunes he dropped, but perhaps more about the amount of guests he brought on stage. While we all love seeing DJ’s share the love with other artists, I’m not sure how impressive an effort this was. Here’s the chronology of guests he brought on stage:
- Dzeko & Torres come on stage while Tiesto plays their remix for John Martin’s “Anywhere for You”.
- Brings on singing duo Icona Pop as they sing Tiesto’s remix of “I Love It”, followed by singing their new collaboration track with Tiesto titled “Let’s Go”.
- Martin Garrix and Afrojack come on stage and give Tiesto the honor of debuting Garrix and Afrojack’s new song, “ID/Turn Up the Bass”. This was followed by Tiesto playing an “Animals” remix while Garrix got on the mic telling the crowd to jump and make noise.
- Introduced MOTi on stage saying, “This guy next to me worked all night to make this track finished exclusively for you guys, my new collaboration with dj MOTi!”
Admittedly, bringing on Icona Pop to sing two songs was pretty unique. The hairy part is when he brought on five other DJ’s (Dzeko & Torres, Martin Garrix, Afrojack, and MOTi) to try and amp up his set. One can view this as Tiesto using his legendary status to help bring attention to other DJ’s. However, the other side of the coin is that Tiesto is heavily dependent on younger, up-and-coming DJ’s for remixes and collaborations in an effort to stay fresh.
What do you think?
