In an exclusive reveal to Billboard yesterday, Tiesto announced that he has plans for a new album in 2013. The highest paid man in EDM also changed his manager to Coran Capshaw of Redlight Management.
Capshaw was the first person to give Dave Matthews Band their first weekly gig (1992 – 1993) and currently manages them, as well as Phish, Tim Mcgraw, Alicia Keys and Faith Hill. It will be interesting to see what Capshaw’s experience and ideas do for Tiesto, who will need to solidify his relationship with the new audiences this year.
New listeners are flocking to EDM each day, but often different genres appeal to them. I believe Capshaw will look to build Tiesto into an icon where genre barriers are broken down. Comparatively speaking Dave Matthews Band is a rock band, but appeal to almost every single demographic. Can Tiesto do the same?
A new Tiesto album would be his fifth release and newest since ‘Kaleidoscope’ in 2009. While Tiesto’s style has evolved from trance to house, it hasn’t hurt his popularity one bit as he is set to begin his second college tour.
Already in 2013 we can look forward to new albums from Kaskade, Avicii, Daft Punk, and now Tiesto. It’s going to be a big year for EDM.
