Up-and-coming producer, Rush Midnight, has treated fans to an upload of the Tokyo Police Club remix of his catchy Disco-inspired track, “Closer”, to his SoundCloud, in addition to revealing the dates for his upcoming U.S/Canadian tour. Having started out writing tracks in hotel rooms and vans while touring through Europe and Australia back in 2010, Brooklyn native, Russ Manning (who now goes by the alias of Rush Midnight), has discernibly flourished as a producer over the past couple years, with a fresh and unique style inspired by artists such as ’80s funk group Change, The Police, and Sade. Since the release of his first EP in 2012, Rush Midnight signed with Last Gang Records earlier this year, and has announced that his debut LP is to come out on May 27th, which will be executive produced by Jesse F Keeler (Death From Above 1979/MSTRKRFT).
This remix definitely adds a new layer of intensity on the original, seamlessly incorporating some new elements, as well as cleverly playing upon the track’s existing features. This remix is highly inventive, and manages to introduce a separate, more percussive style to the tune while still allowing the distinctive Disco vibe to shine through. Grooving melodies, and warm, smooth synthesizer sounds harmonize fluidly with the dulcet, almost Indie-like vocals.
