One of South East London’s greatest contributions to the music industry, TroyBoi makes his appearance at Dreamscape Music Festival. Troy is known for his unique and grimy sound that has landed him as a staple in the electronic community. From doing collaborations with Diplo and Flosstradamus, to producing his own original tracks, who knows what he has in store for us next. RaverRafting was able to catch up with Troy before his set and talk to him about what he has been up to since coming back from his recent Mantra tour.
In addition to being glued to the production room, Troy had the opportunity to give us insight on touring life as well as future goals as an artist. Without further ado, this is RaverRafting’s exclusive interview with Troyboi.
You’ve been hinting at dropping new music all over social media, can you tell me what you have in store for your fans?
Troyboi: Well I definitely have in store for you guys an album.
Oh, so not even an EP? A full album?
Troyboi: Yes, a full album. I mean I have always been dropping singles, or dropping three songs at a time. And I have been keeping quiet lately and doing a lot of touring, so I feel like now is the time I should put a body of work together. It is coming out this summer.
This summer?
Troyboi: This summer for sure, it is almost done.
You have done collabs with the biggest names in EDM from Diplo to Flosstradamus, will we see more of those in the future? Like on this new album of yours?
Troyboi: Maybe.
I mean I just heard an Ekali collab during his set before this so..
Troyboi: Haha yeah. Just know that of course I am going to be making a lot, even with this album, more music. I have way more tracks ready, I’m just doing some fine tuning with them. But definitely a lot of new music coming out very soon.
I remember a few years ago you played one of your first shows in Florida. It is crazy that today you live in Miami. Explain how different it is living in the States versus in the UK.
Troyboi: I mean it’s almost like night and day you know. Going from really overcast weather, for a start, to like 30 degree sunshine every single day. Also the whole Latin culture in Miami, which I love. And the food differences. Like everything! It’s a huge change.
Do you miss anything back home?
Troyboi: Of course! I miss London of course. But then this is almost like a dream, to go from London to the States and especially Miami.
What would you say is your biggest achievement thus far?
Troyboi: I would say my Mantra Tour. Which I just did. Like doing a fully original set, bringing my own stage, lights, dancers, you name it. It was a show, and I put everything into that. And I am still going to go off that tour in the future, but I would say that it is one of my proudest moments thus far.
What is your ultimate goal as an artist?
Troyboi: I don’t have an ultimate goal, but I definitely take each day as it comes. I look to exceed my potential, to achieve my potential. And I think it will take a lot of time to reach an ultimate goal.
Since you have started producing is there anything you noticed that has changed or improved in your style?
Troyboi: Absolutely, I would say I am evolving for sure. I definitely think I am improving, because I always try to do better than my last track. I try to think what I can do to make it sound better. Or things I can do that I haven’t done before. Yet I still use old elements into my newer songs, so I can make my style my style. All in all, yes I am improving and evolving, but also maintaining my own style.
Was there ever anything crazy that’s ever happen to you on tour? For example, fans doing anything crazy?
Troyboi: Well the only crazy thing that happened, on my first Mantra tour was that someone broke into my tour bus. On the final day of my tour too! They stole all my drinks and a lot of valuable things. It was very unfortunate.
Stay tuned for more information regarding Troyboi. We couldn’t be more stoked for the release of his album so expect a full review of the upcoming release to be featured on RaverRafting. We’d like to thank Troyboi and his team for taking the time to sit down with us.
