It wasn’t until a recent discussion with my good friend Brian that I was able to collect my thoughts in a manner worthy of critically describing Ryan Hemsworth. Brian coined the term “Instagram producer,” his own way of developing an explanation for the simplistic beauty behind Hemsworth’s sound, a metaphor for his nu-minimalist approach currently captivating the intrawebz.
Much like an Instagram filter is added to an original image in order to accentuate the finer details for a more desirable finished product, Hemsworth pays homage to each original’s integrity by maintaining it’s defining roots throughout his interpretation. His remixes are simple, sexy and classy – laced with honest emotion protruding from every beat.
Without one particular aspect dominating another, Ryan Hemsworth is the cool, calm, and collected cousin of minimal tech house and experimental sound. His most recent release, a remix of Rhye‘s ‘Open’, is the perfect example of this unique approach.
