Manic Focus and Michal Menert again shared the stage as “Manic Menert” for a glitched-out disco party, this time during a secret sunrise set on the final night of Camp Bisco 2015 at Montage Mountain in Scranton, PA.
In the video below you can see those on stage, MF, Menert and rapper/hype man Jubee, fall prey to the irresistible swing and sway of their electro-soul. Their moves are of course enhanced by the rather-large, “Pennsylvania-sized” Southern Comfort bottle making its rounds. The set was one of many hosted by a mysterious “magic school bus” and its crew, We Present, a community which hosts bass music shows in the tri-state area with Good Looks New York (GLNY) on the stage production.
Levitation Jones cooked some secret sauce at the bus in addition to Subset who reportedly played for over five hours. Manic Menert did their thing for just over an hour, dropping tracks like “Shadow of Your Heart” and “Low Orbit” from Menert’s Space Jazz album.
Sunrise sets are always a special treat for festival goers. They invert the traditional setting of electronic music by bringing it out of the dark i.e. a club or warehouse and into the light of a dew-soaked field or in this case Camp Bisco’s RV campsite. The best sunrise sets have soulful and generally optimistic music, which is naturally appropriate. They help festival goers chill out after the long and lovely emotional journey of a music festival, a smooth come-down we’ll call it. Menert’s tune “Tomorrow May Never Come” was a perfect choice for this environment, a sobering cut reminding the crowd to have fun and remain grateful, because even though the sun rises today, it’s not promised tomorrow.
