Originally debuting on WRR during the #FutureBassFridays saga, Moon Funk is back with another colorful release unlike anything you’ve heard before.
Diplo’s “Revolution” has been flipped plenty of times by a multitude of artists, but “Revolution (Moon Funk Remix)” is closer to a personal production rather than remix.
Sampling only the vocals and key of the original, Moon Funk forms a poppy, yet raw – friendly, yet terrifying masterpiece of a remix. And that’s not all Moon Funk as been up to:
So your music definitely wouldn’t be described as “Mainstream EDM,” so how did the idea of blending your style of music with Diplo’s popular “Revolution?”
While my music may not be aligned with the mainstream and EDM, I am a fan of Diplo and the Mad Decent label. Revolution is a song I have been putting in my live sets for quite some time, so I figured I’d flip the track and add my own taste to it.
Is the Mad Decent sound one of your main inspirations? What other artists/labels truly drive you to produce music?
I find inspiration and musical influences from all over, Mad Decent and it’s artists are just a few. Also, these inspirations are ever-changing as I discover new music and artists. Currently, the Soulection crew, Flow-Fi crew as well as specific artists like Haywyre and Flume are in heavy rotation on my phone.
How you think your style of music consumption will influence your releases in 2015? Will you release music that varies greatly in genre and feeling?
While I find influences from all genres and styles of music, I do feel drawn to artists who are creating something new, organic and fresh, whether that means their actual production or how they create a live show and experience. I have a sophomore EP in its final stages with some interesting collaborations that should be interesting to see how they pan out. After that, I’ll be going back to the drawing board and experimenting with new sounds and ways to branch out from my signature sound while keeping Moon Funk rooted elements..
What direction with the EP take? Any collaborations plans to be featured on it?
A few other collaboration projects are in the early stages, as well as a Moon Funk Party Series in DC, are in store in the near future as well, stay tuned!
