It’s been one hell of a year in techno. From long-time legends of Drumcode to rising artists on Suara, 2018 saw some of the most tenacious, mind-melting tracks rumbling through the underground. With so many top notch tunes over the past 12-months, it was more difficult than most years to sit down and sort through our favorites for this end-of-the year roundup. Unanimously, what stood out to us the most was the number of emerging artists ferociously commanding the decks and our Spotify playlists, and we wanted to make sure that their talents did not go unnoticed.
Two of our standout tracks of the year come from the bold, Brazilian-native ANNA. Easily one of our new favorite DJ and producers, this techno goddess catapulted to the top fast and furiously in 2018. Earlier this year, she released her strongest original on Kompakt’s Spiecer series, “Hidden Beauties.” The track was selected by Mixmag as one of the best tracks of the year and could be heard in sets from industry mavens playing from the white isle of Ibiza to the most prominent music festivals worldwide. Just as the year started winding down, ANNA delivered an immaculate remix of John Hopkin’s “Singularity,” making it loud and clear she has no plans of slowing down her takeover of the underground.
Along with ANNA’s two hits and some obvious heavy-hitters, you’ll find a number of tracks from rising artists like Atroxx, Brennen Grey, Anakim and more, whose music shattered our bones to bits and left lasting impressions on us.
