Trillectro makes its much anticipated return to the DC area this year on August 23rd and is bringing with it a cast of some of the most high energy artists in trap music today. Baauer, known for his innovative trap mixes and widespread infectious beats, will be headlining the event alongside Big Sean, a Detroit based rapper with explosive lyrical potential.
Unlike previous events, this one will be held at RFK Stadium to accommodate a larger crowd and will feature a long list of incredible artists you might not have heard of yet but are primed for the opportunity to “blow your head”.
“Conveniently located in Washington, DC, RFK Festival Grounds situated just outside the former home the Washington Redskins. There’s no better place to celebrate the culture of DC than right outside the hallowed grounds of one of DC’s more iconic venues.” – Trillectro Website
One name on the roster that deserves a second, third and even fourth glance is the District’s own anomalous trap supplier, Willy Joy. As a proud outlier from your typical trap purveyor, Willy Joy is an artist you can’t miss. It’s easy to take homegrown talent for granted, but in this case the chance to see a true master of the genre completely in his element is too great to overlook.
Also unique in his own right is Lunice. His style of adding a smoother trap touch to traditional gangster rap has earned him collaborations with the likes of hip hop heavyweight, Rick Ross and rising star, Azaelia Banks.
A testament to the sultry side of trap is SZA. This surprise sign-on to Top Dawg Entertainment is lacing the airwaves with her effortless blend of gentle vocals and rippling 808s that is undeniably sensual. Despite the seemingly awkward disparity between Solana Rowe’s soft sound and the other more aggressive sounding artists on the roster, she proves to be the perfect means of showcasing trap music’s full spectrum.
The inclusion of Goldlink and Sango in the lineup adds a lyrical quality to the event that most trap performances are lacking. It’s important to keep in mind here that trap is first and foremost a sub-genre of rap music originating in the South and secondarily an element of electronic music. With this understanding, to witness the lyrical prowess selectively sampled and delivered by these two artists is nothing short of impressive.
Still not convinced? Check out the official recap video from last year’s event to get a better idea of what to expect from this all day homage to trap. With early bird tickets as low as $49 for GA and $115 for VIP, you’ll be hard pressed to find a bigger bang for your buck.
