Over the years, we’ve grown to love Zeds Dead for their versatility to produce hard-hitting dubstep, dance floor electro, and thumping instramental hip-hop. However, before Dylan Mamid (DC) and Zach Rapp-Rovan (Hooks) began making electronic dance music, they were known as the hip-hop producing duo, Mass Productions.
Very few people know that in 2007 Mass Productions released their lone LP titled “Fresh Beetz.” Although Zeds Dead fuses elements of hip-hop in their current music, this Mass Productions album is unique because it’s completely hip-hop oriented. Each track has a mellow flow reminiscent of classic 90’s hip-hop beats from albums such as Jay-Z’s “Reasonable Doubt” or Nas’ “Illmatic.”
While this album may not have been a huge hit, it sheds light into the Canadian duo’s extensive ability to produce high quality tracks across multiple genre’s of music. With each song averaging about two minutes in length, the entire album finishes in just under 40 minutes.
The album was provided as a free download from Zeds Dead and is available here, or can be streamed below.
