Multifaceted producer Manic Focus aka John “JmaC” McCarten is known for his roots in funk, soul, and hip-hop. He’s impressed many with his multi-genre sound that often includes soulful blues mixed with heavy-hitting bass, creating quite the unique combo.
With six albums under his belt, Manic Focus continues to impress with his original, sample-free recordings. He’s released 15 singles which included collaborations with industry leaders such as Break Science, Mersiv, ProbCause, and Marvel Years. His latest original track, “Back From The Future” comes to us from no other than experimental bass label, WAKAAN.
“Back From The Future” was originally written as a bridge to a gap in McCarten’s set. Lucky for us, it played well enough to earn itself a full title with two drops. The track lures listeners in at the start of the track with hype vocals that stick around throughout the song. A quick build leads to a funky baseline with punchy drums. The distorted synth work and groovy melodic twist after the second drop is the real energy source. You can imagine the crowd going crazy as this song plays out at the main stage at a festival. This forward-thinking, creative sound design showcases Manic Focus’ versatility and leaves fans begging for more!
This tune is about raging into the future with optimism and swag. I wrote the main idea in a hotel room before a show. I needed a song to bridge a gap in my set, so I made a big crunchy beat in 20 min. I played it that night and it went better than expected, so I elaborated on the idea and turned it into a full song with 2 drops. I was imagining the energy of the crowd I was about to play for and putting that energy into a song. The vocals say ‘Bring that s*** back’, and that s*** is the awesome energy the fans bring to shows.
