With only roughly 7,000 followers Proko is very much an up and coming artist, but after stunting with this near-perfect mixtape he deserves the recognition of a seasoned pro.
Proko lets you know he means business right off the bat with an elaborate and gripping intro, which sets the stage before seamlessly transitioning into his Wakaan anthem “Turn My Music High”.
The rest of the mix consists primarily of Proko originals and collabs (including a suprise one with label-head Liquid Stranger), which gives the whole thing a sonic aestetic that can only be described as straight grime. Distorted basslines, gritty synths, and unbelievably punchy drums are all staples in Proko songs, resulting in non-stop bangers for the mix’s entirety.
Despite this the mix knows how to maintain its own energy, and it never feels overwhelming or stale. There is enough variety and change ups in the mix to keep any listener invested as they excitedly live out the sci-fi movie in Proko’s mind.
With his “Abduction Mixtape” Proko has defined himself as a force to be reakoned with in the bass scene. As ravers continue to catch on to the fresh sound that he is presenting, we’re sure he’ll begin to pop up on more and more lineups across the country.
