Hi everybody and welcome back to the Shuffle Button. This week we have a bit of a house and electro vibe going, and something a little fun towards the end to shake things up a bit.
Afrika Bambaataa – Just Get Up And Dance
Starting off this week, we figured we’d dig into the crates to pull out this gem from 1990. Afrika Bambaataa was one of the trailblazers of electro and hip hop. The New York native was releasing songs in the 80’s and 90’s that are still sampled and remixed today. Frankly, “Just Get Up And Dance” sounds like it could have been released a month ago, especially with the recent resurgence in disco.
The timeless nature of his sound hints at how far ahead of his time he was. His futuristic and wacky dress while he was performing probably hinted at that too.
Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs – Energy Fantasy
The one of a kind Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs has contributed his unique vision to this new “Energy Fantasy” release. Following his trademark formula of combining ethereal sounds with heavy beats, his new track does not disappoint.
By blending nature and wilderness sounds with a heavy bass-line, the song is simultaneously dreamy and serious about its beat. The segueing composition takes your emotions and your energy on a roller coaster.
Moguai & Raumakustik – Sometimes
Moving into some tech-house, Moguai and Raumakustik have taken an interesting approach to separate themselves from the many artists in the genre.
“Sometimes” features a soulful vocal and a pumping beat. It’s a catchy tune that encourages listeners to get their groove on.
Fisher – Losing It
The past year has been a coming out party for Fisher. His brand of aggressive and dark music has been hitting it big with fans. His unique sounds explore the genre and bring a new dimension to what people can expect from tech-house.
Listening to “Losing It” feels like you have your head right next to a speaker. The sound of the song completely fills your ears and pushes out all other noise. The song is so powerful.
With horn blasts and gritty electronic sounds, Fisher has found a sound truly all his own.
Swedish House Mafia & Knife Party – Antidote
When it was leaked in 2012 that electronic music super groups Swedish House Mafia and Knife Party would be collaborating, it generated a ton of buzz. The production skills and influence of each of these collectives was massive. Put them together and fans could only wonder what the finished product would be.
Unsurprisingly, when “Antidote” was debuted IT WENT OFF. The song is dark, fast paced, energetic, and heavy. It’s basically exactly what fans were hoping for.
The fact that it’s still bumps just as hard six years after its release shows just how great of a song it is. It’s not often that you get music heavyweights collaborating at the perk of their powers. “Antidote” signifies an incredible moment in dance music history, and it sounds just as big as influential as it needed to be.
CHOOOOON of the Week
The Ting Tings – Great DJ
Ok, sooo we’re kinda ending on pop rock instead of electronic music this week. Although, the song does have “DJ” in the name, so that’s close enough.
The Ting Tings symbolize fun. Their sound is fun. Their energy is fun. Even when the subject matter isn’t fun, they still make it seem like it is (“Shut Up And Let Me Go” isn’t exactly happy-go-lucky). “Great DJ” is great pop rock. It’s catchy, easy to sing along with, and FUN.
