Iconic Canadian producer and trolling adept, Joel Zimmerman (best known by the alias of Deadmau5), has shared his action-packed week competing in the Gumball 3000 car rally with all of his fans via social media (as well as through a 360 degree interactive livestream for subscribers of his membership-based website, live.deadmau5.com), and as the week-long, intercontinental race reached its conclusion, he was [quite deservingly] awarded the “Spirit Of The Gumball” trophy. Accompanied by Mythbusters’ Tory Belleci, Joel trekked his Ferrari 458 spider, which he completely transformed into “The Purrari” with a Nyan-cat wrap and thematic finishings, from Miami to Ibiza over the course of the week, stopping to play after-party sets, and even getting into a slight kerfuffle with the French police along the epic journey. At the awards dinner, founder of the rally, Maximillion Cooper, made some very kind remarks while presenting Joel with the trophy;
“Honestly, they embraced the rally in the way that I intended it from day one…They got in a bit of trouble, but not too much. And I’d also like to thank Joel for performing at a couple of the parties and really adding to the energy this year.”
Deadmau5′ reaction was priceless, having accepted the award with genuine gratitude and elation;
“I had an amazing co-pilot, Tory Belleci here, and I have to tell you I’ve done this circuit many times in a tour bus, but not like this, that’s for sure…And I’m just super grateful that I’ve kind of been accepted into the Gumball family”
