The chill music scene isn’t slowing down anytime soon. It’s astounding to see the amount of growth, diversication, and money to be made within the scene. I can see the genre being the next “big movement” in years to come. Whatever happens, hear some of the greatest and latest from future house to minimal and beyond – these tunes are a partial snapshot of what’s happening right now, in the scene.
Penguin Prison – Show Me The Way (Taylor Wise Remix)
There’s an immense amount of electro / pop / chill hybrids floating around streaming channels these days. But Taylor Wise takes good care of the sounds he uses, allowing his release to rise above all the others, especially when compared to the most recently released ones. The small FX added via the piano entering and exiting, the perfect delay effect added to the “wait” sample, the smooth, yet cut-up guitar melody that flows just right – Taylor Wise knows how to make good, clean, chill music.
Diplo & Sleepy Tom – Don’t Walk Away ( 40 Cobras & Sean Will Remix)
Labeled “Tropical Bass” 40 Cobras & Sean Will put a twist on the chill house sound with a more steel drum, Caribbean flavored influenced remix of the highly viral original “Don’t Walk Away”. All the parts fall together beautifully, making this remix something special.
WDL – Hurricane Highlife (Feat Mawe)
This is one of those tunes that takes your breathe away. “Hurricane Highlife (Feat Mawe)” has grace, epicness, a pure message, and an overall amazing sound and feeling. The midi verse that’s introduced is surprising but fitting, which soon leads to a simple, yet pleasant drop. The energy level of the tune is pretty steady, yet the emotion it conveys is very intense.
RYAN Playground – Are You Mad
It’s really easy for the album art to pull you in on this one. “Are You Mad” takes downtempo and moving vocals to an interesting place. The tune is magical and gentle the entire way through – easily one of the most unique tunes on the list. When you think it can’t getting any more different, it does.
Monogem – Gone (INSTRUM Remix)
When I think of groups at the top of the chill house / melodic house movement, few names come to mind – but one of them is INSTRUM. He’s always dishes out swet blend of old-school and new school house with type of catchy flavor mixed in. The dude knows what he’s doing. “Gone (INSTRUM Remix)” is a dope extension of the glory.
Daily Holla – Progress EP
Daily Holla is the brainchild of Harry Deadman, an Australian artist. Residing in the Gold Coast, Daily Holla creates a novel craft that’s impeccable. Known for his guitar riffs and side chain heavy synthesis, the rising producer is set for a massive 2016. Keep your eyes on him. This EP is nuts.
TastyTreat – Palms (feat. Amory)
Wow, it’s like Lido, ILLENIUM and Gallant mixed into one. “Palms” is a cluster of great music theory, senusal highs and lows, and an overall feelling of chill that’s hard to beat. “Palms (feat. Amory)” is my favorite TastyTreat release yet.
Luca Schreiner Feat. Kimberly Anne – Missing
Ultra Music is really good at adapting to the ever-changing landscape of dance music. Their sound is a blend of chill to intense, but it all tends to be refreshingly original. “Missing” is another great example of this via Ultra’s chill side. With a mix of trippy, pop, and tropical Luca Schreiner and Kimberly Anne have hit a home run.
Jean Tonique – Guest [feat Iris] (Young Franco Remix)
This tune just feels right. There’s nothing sudden or dramatic about it, but the flow feels natural, melodic and easy to groove to. Young Franco could be the next JackLNDN; “Guest [feat Iris] (Young Franco Remix)” shows innovative chill house with a signature sound – I’m diggin’.
