When I started this playlist, I had no idea that indie and pop sounds would take over dance music and mainstream music the way they have. This playlist reflects what’s happening on the chill side of dance music with current rising producers, and always will. I can speak for RaverRafting when we say we are happy to see that many of the artist’s we’ve featured on our lists years ago have gone on to great things. We take pride in cataloging these moments on the blog. And we will continue to do so with this playlist!
Tilka – Love
“Love” is several great sounds smashed together. A little of that Chet Porter “minimal chill trap” sound and a lot of indie and pop make up “Love”. It’s the overall flow of the track that truly gives it it’s juice. Tilka has a new EP coming up, it’s safe to say hopes are high given what the single teases.
The Nicholas – Pocket (prod. San Holo)
bitbird has been putting out some serious gold. There are few fams that can truly express a world of sound that’s all its own, but the bitbird/San Holo fam have done it. “Pocket” actually reminds me of the acoustic tracks that classic rock bands like The Eagles would make, but brought into a very modern, 21st century frame. In other words, if The Eagles came out now, it would probably sound like this! In all, “Pocket” is fantastically smooth, original, but still maintains that unmistakable sound design.
DUX – CTL ft. Stan Carrizosa
“CTL ft. Stan Carrizosa” is just badass music that anyone can relate to. The chorus feels good, feels right, and gets the imagination running. DUX’s sound is like if the Black Keys and Pink Floyd had a baby. The retro TV audio samples were a cool twist too – you just don’t know what’s coming next with this one.
RKCB – Elevated (k?d Remix)
If you don’t know k?d by now, you should. The input k?d adds to to this track is phenomenal, the dude truly pushes the limits on the future bass / indie vibe right now. “Elevated (k?d Remix)” hits with an epic vengeance and leaves you begging for more. Easily my favorite k?d release to date.
Illstrtd – Pictures Don’t Fade feat. Mack Moses (Dugong Jr Remix)
A interesting mix of funk, chill trap, and a splash of future bass. Dugong Jr did the original justice, adding an entirely new flavor to the tune. “Pictures Don’t Fade feat. Mack Moses (Dugong Jr Remix)” hits like few can and is one of the more energetic tracks on this week’s playlist.
Burning Game – Giia [Prod. MEMBA]
Giia is just getting their start but making a big impression. “Burning Game” is more on the serious, dramatic side, and is an excellent fusion of real instrumention and electronic overlay. Sometimes it can be hard to find that balance, but Giia nails it. Check out Giia’s previous release with MEMBAA on SoundCloud too if you enjoy this one.
