An overall theme that stuck this week is that now that new genres, such as indie-future bass, dark electronic-r&b, and all sorts of chill trap hybrids with tons of varying subgenre influence, have been around, you can hear these sounds start to mature in their own way and artists really extracting these maximum quality level productions out of them. This week’s Unwind The Mind focuses on a blend of great release of genres veterans will know well, like deep house, and a handful of amazing, mature sounds of trends people can’t get enough of this year, such as the ones mentioned before. Have a great weekend!
Toby – 17
“17” is a beautiful balance of vocal samples (not like you’ve heart before) and contains some easy going chord progression and percussion to hold the rhythm down. This track has a minimalist structure to it – uses empty space to it’s advantage. Over time Toby’s “17” gradually picks up the energy level but you don’t really notice, which adds an deserving uplifting element to the already chill nature of the track.
DVBBS X SHAUN FRANK Feat. Delaney Jane – La La Land (Razz Remix)
This tune is packed with those sunny California vibes, LA based producer Razz has outdone himself on this one, a remix of “La La Land” by DVBBS and Shaun Frank. This tune has gone through alot of remixes from dozens of artists, but this one does the tune justice, adding a classic 2016 future bass vibe to the super catchy vocals of the original. Doesn’t matter how many times I hear that drop, it trips me out.
LJ Hawk ft. Ash – High (Husky’s Bobbin Head Mix)
Make’s you bob your head, indeed. Husky’s remix of “High” by LJ Hawk and Ash makes your mind drift away from the worries of the world in no time. The vocals comes in early from Ash and leads the way basically the whole time, quite the adventure. Hawk sums up the track well in his own words “I love how it turned out – it just seems to sway perfectly in the breeze”.
Dj Snake X Moksi- Pigalle (Adam Foster’s Dialect Edit)
“Pigalle (Adam Foster’s Dialect Edit)” has that energetic, upbeat feel that makes your feet want to get to shufflin’. What else do you need in a good deep house track? “Pigalle (Adam Foster’s Dialect Edit)” is suspenseful, epic, and lays out a different path than the original; while still being altogether a chill house listen that’s relatable and relevant.
The Felix – Pretend We Never Met
“Pretend We Never Me” caught my attention from the first moments that past. The vocal reminds me of what would be in an emo / pop punk song, but not only are the vocals instead stacked onto a dance music song, but the beat is notable in it’s own right too. Those drums capture a one-of-a-kind late 80’s early 90’s vibe that so many try to mimick, few actually nail. The synths is what completes the picture, original, fitting, complimentary to the drums an voice. “Pretend We Never Met” is an all around personable experience.
Kid Arkade – Trainwreck feat. Neon Hitch
The intro here is absolutely captivating, “Trainwreck feat. Neon Hitch” follows up with the dramatic piano instrumental intro with poppy sex-fueled vocals from Neon Hitch. I could see fans of Sam Feldt, The Him, and of course Kaskade eating this one up. Kid Arkade gave us so many special feels and huge releases last year, garnering over a million plays on just a few releases. Fans are waiting to see what they have offered in 2016, “Trainwreck feat. Neon Hitch” is a great example of the type of vibes soon to come.
Limitless – Castles (feat. RORA)
Uprise Music is taking a more experiential release with this one, the album sort of teases the mood of the track, but “Castles (feat. RORA)” Limitless really put the power in future bass, exploring new melodic areas that too many artist seem to skip over. “Castles (feat. RORA)” is a tune you don’t have to think about at all, you just like it.
