A trend I am seeing is that the chill movement is this new wave of chill artist truly starting to solidify itself this fall. There seems to be a pretty clear dividing line between one hit wonders and those who can sustainably make hit after hit. I feel like now there is a core group artists, from deep house to future bass (who fuck with chill sounds) who are in the limelight at the moment and not many more young producers with similar sounds can make it to that same level unless they can prove themselves in a similar way, or have mad connects. It’s not about just one hit. This type of pattern takes place in many genres of music, but I’ve just been noticing with this niche, that’s the state of the sub-genre atm imo.
Charlie Brennan & Miller Guth – Broken Cities
“Broken Cities” appeals to what so many young people willingly and sometimes forcibly have to go through, living and working day to day in a big city. Where it seems so many moments are to be had, but flip the coin and you’ll notice so many are alone in areas so crowded. Charlie Brennan & Miller Guth nail this theme with a chill and modern electronic feel blended with a well-spoken story.
ye. – (hlsy flip)
Fresh off the heals of a hit collaboration with Pluto on the XO Collective, ye. deliver’s another future bass gem that more than hits the spot. A hypnotizing combination of repetitive drops and an arpeggio melody make this flip of the hit Halsey track one-of-a-kind.
Marti Ann – Wired
There’s something naturally infectious and hip about the beats that Marti Ann creates. Sort of like a chill Twenty One Pilots, with a bit of evolving to do. “Wired” keeps it trill and is totally on point. Wish these dudes were in America. Nuff said.
FLÜME ft. Kåi – NEV3R B? LiiKe Y0ü (Downlow’d Remix)
Downlow’d is keeping the stream of poppy hit tracks at full steam ahead. One of my favorite parts of this act is the colorful , nerdy, personal technology oriented vibe Dowlow’d has always had. This time, with a future type twist. Love it!
T H E L A S T P O R T – NUAGE
The Parisian Raphaël known as The Last Port is back with another chill gem. With elements of trap, this light and fluffy track makes us elevate into the clouds and never want to come down. Be sure to check out the entire YOU&ME EP.
