Sometimes a variety of sounds come to us, this week it leaned a bit more on one side. This week’s Unwind The Mind focus’s on more of the poppy, trendier side of chill and house genres. Regardless, the tunes we’ve chosen are great, featuring a variety of artists from several backgrounds and experiences.
JAHKOY – California Heaven (The White Panda Remix)
The White Panda strikes a nostalgic chord within me. The duo have been around for 1000 years in dance music years basically, starting their career on a blend of sick branding, amazing mashups, and remixes, they’ve only grown since then, their latest being a remix of the hit “California Heaven (The White Panda Remix)”. A poppy, feel-good remix with hints of future bass and sun-kissed sounds inside. The tune has garnered nearly 200K plays in less than a week, its safe to say these guys are on the upswing and then some.
SICK INDIVIDUALS ft. Stevie Appleton – People I Love
Sick Individuals have always been fantastic at putting beautiful ballads together. In their beginnings, their focus was big-room and progressive house. Yet, this time they’ve taken more of a modern turn, applying their skills to the chill house soundscapes rather that house bangers – the result is fire. The tune just delivers simply and graciously – a single hard not to like, if you enjoy great pop.
STéLOUSE – Been So Long (feat. Nick Leng)
NEW STELOUSE ALERT! Stelouse is up their Whethan and KRNE; a superb conveyer of the future bass sound, with zero genericness built in. This time, he takes a more experimental route, focusing much more heavily on a house tempos and indie vocals. The vibe reminded me of something Passion Pit would make. “Been So Long (feat. Nick Leng)” is a breathe of fresh air and a dynamic inclusion to Stelouse’s discography.
ye – dffle
Ye. is one of the best up and comers to hit the scene this year, especially when him and Pluto get together. “dffle” is a solo release, dropped only by Ye. himself. Pulling together an innovative future bass drop with great sound design, hip-hop vocal samples, and heart wrenching female vocals, Ye. pieces together a tune with uplifting and melancholy moments, truly a unique talent.
POOLCLVB – Always (Odd Mob Remix)
We end this playlist with a remix that highlights classic house vibes, a remix of POOLCLVB’s “Odd Mob”. The theme delivered is one of dreamy, creamy lightness brought to you by amazing delay/echo-effects background sounds, arpeggios, and all-around great producing. Odd Mob was not on my radar before, but I am very happy they are, every passing moment of this song is a joy to hear.
