Am I wrong in thinking that dance music is taking an overall more chill direction? Honestly, we get hit with way more tracks from ‘chiller’ artists than any other, and much less heavy house tunes, which wasn’t true at all 2 years ago. At the same time, the quality of music coming from this corner of dance music is simply better constructed and more suited to almost all of life’s moments, from relaxing to fun, not just party/club moments. It’s fascinating to watch trends change rapidly, the future is looking pretty awesome. Here’s a sweet selection of phenomenimal up-and-comers, most of whom are at the center of the ‘chiller’ movement, that’ve dropped new music this week.
Justin Bieber – Love Yourself (AVE & EFX Remix)
Another Bieber remix.. But! This one is of the best I’ve ever heard. AVE & EFX’s pro quality edits – especially on the drop – gives you a glimpse of something truly new. Not sure where these guys came from, but it’s only a [short] matter of time until they soar. Take a couple listens on this one, you learn something new every time.
Beach Boys – Wouldn’t It Be Nice (Justin Caruso Remix)
Justin Caruso is a brave soul. Beach Boys music is known for having some of the most complex theory construction their music in rock, which is why you see so few covers of the tune. Justin Caruso takes the sunkissed tune to new heights with a fresh and edgy twist. The mix of heavy bass and ambiance is breathtaking, it certainly doesn’t sound odd at anytime.
THEY. – Motley Crue (AWAY Remix)
NEW PROJECT ALERT!. Seriously though, AWAY is dishing out someting extraordinary. “Motley Crue (AWAY Remix)” is as if Nine Inch Nails and Prince Fox fused – you have the tempo and key of a rock song, with a healthy dose of future bass built on top; it fits in ways you could not imagine.
KANDY – Lick It (Original Mix)
What did I just hear? The angle that KANDY comes at his drops is second to none. The rolling, constant wall of sound at 100 BPM is down-right trippy. “Lick It” is only a tease of a full EP coming out 2/15 on MixMash. KANDY’s world is flat-out infectious, from branding to music and beyond.
Goldwash – Malady
Goldwash is a rising songwriter and producer hailing from Baltimore. He seems to have perfected his self coined “existential funk” sound and we’re loving it. Keep an eye on him because he’s not slowing down anytime soon. Enjoy!
Rhodes – Wishes (Hitimpulse Remix)
The drums is what ties this tune together. The pop-indie vocals mixes with fascinating verses and majestic build ups. “Wishes (Hitimpulse Remix)” fills the listener with that melancholy feeling of a passionate acoustic ballad, but it’s wrapped in a layer of stellar next-gen dance styles. “Wishes (Hitimpulse Remix)” takes your places.
Lazyboy Empire – Vampire (AYO ALEX Remix)
“Vampire (AYO ALEX Remix)” fills you with feel-good waves right down the the core. With an almost-tropical, lively, and emphatic vibe to it, AYO ALEX has released a remix that’s been officially released and supported by Big Beat Records. AYO ALEX has been featured on RaverRafting before, but this is easily our favorite from him yet.
Marat Leon – Swing featuring Robyn Banks
With collabs with folks like Gazzo, Proximity premieres, label releases, and more under his belt. Marat Leon’s style is taking new shape in 2016, showcasing a sense a maturity that proves he’s not messing around anymore.
