Far Out’s music has become synonymous with cinematic, atmospheric, and interstellar. We’ve been introduced into the Canadian producer’s world of soundscapes through powerful tracks like “On My Own” with Karra reach has reached over 13 million streams and his first Ophelia Records release, “Constellation”. You may have also seen him debut at EDC Las Vegas, tour with Illenium, or most recently play with Jason Ross on Ross’ Monday Atlas stream on Insomniac.
Last week we got to see Far Out debut his first EP on Ophelia Records, Beyond the Horizon. Clocking in at four tracks, Far Out taps talented vocalists Ally Thorn, RØRY, Heather Sommer, and Monika Santucci to deliver heartfelt lyrics that truly shine through each song. We start our “Adventure” with Ally Thorn, where a downtempo balance of light piano and smooth drum kit create the foundation. We find this track to be a call to action, finding ourselves rushing down the path because it’s all, “just an adventure running through our veins”. What has become one of the bigger standouts of the EP, “Alchemy” is like being wrapped in a sound blanket. Warm synths, tender strings, and RØRY’s melancholic voice orchestrate the melody before the buildup fills us with bright energy that lifts us out of our chairs.
Next up we come back to the previously released, “Focus”, with Heather Sommer. This is easily one of the most beautiful sounding tracks we have ever heard come from Ophelia. You can read an in depth dive in here. Bookending the EP is “Wherever You Are” with Monika Santucci. After listening through the project a few times, we have come to love the trend of acoustic piano that seems to be the bedrock, and it especially shines in this. A symphony of bass pushes to the top before we glide through the drop. We can’t help but find that these are the elements of melodic dubstep we crave.
